What We DO
Society for the Aged (SOFAG)
Our Programs, Activities and Interventions
In line with our mission and objectives, we undertake programs in health care, awareness creation, counselling among others to help the aged in society.
Health Care
Community Clinical and Health Screening
Three main activities are undertaken to address the health needs of older people.
Community clinics/ screening with volunteer Health teams
Major medical cases identified during clinics are referred to hospitals for further treatment.
Purchasing of drugs: Assistance is offered to older people who could not purchase drugs prescribed for them, when they attend clinic/ hospitals. Their extended family members are firstly approached to assist whether wholly or partially with the purchase of the drug.
Awareness Creation
The objectives of these awareness programs include:
To assist older people to accept their natural conditions.
To educate the public especially the growing adults to appreciate the need to prepare for their old age.
To bring the plight of Aged to the fore thereby encouraging all to play part for the national development.
To solicit the support of individuals, corporate bodies, clubs/ associations, etc. to support the work of Society for the Aged (SOFA Ghana)
Counseling
A group of volunteers in all chapters in the society and some partner organizations have been trained in counseling techniques. Counseling is provided to the older people and family cares/ members. The program aims at assisting the target groups to accept and manage change of the ageing process.
